iOS offline cold start: navigator.serviceWorker is undefined in the webview — is App-Bound Domains the answer?
Hi — I run a Median Plus app live on the App Store. It's a web app that ships its own service worker, and offline works correctly on Android: with the cache warmed, the app cold-starts with no connection and runs normally.
On iOS it doesn't. Inside the app's webview, navigator.serviceWorker is undefined, so a service worker can never register. The Cache API itself works fine — I can see several hundred entries cached — so this looks like service workers being unavailable in WKWebView rather than a storage problem.
What I'm trying to achieve is simple: the app should launch and work offline in airplane mode, exactly as it does online.
Your Service Workers documentation says iOS requires App-Bound Domains. Could you confirm:
Is App-Bound Domains supported for Median apps today?
Can it be enabled from App Studio, or does it require building from source with WKAppBoundDomains in the Info.plist and limitsNavigationsToAppBoundDomains = YES?
If it requires a source build, does that configuration persist for future cloud builds, or would every build need to come from source?
If this is available as a done-for-you service, what's the cost and turnaround?
Current symptoms for context: with Offline Page set to Disabled, an iOS offline launch shows a blank white screen. With it enabled, users see the offline page instead of the app.
Thanks.
